Social networks have always been part of evolutionary behaviour. From the combination of cells to create a microorganism to homosapiens (BOOK GLOBAL BRAIN) who working together as a hunting team. (SOURCE STAR SUCKERS FILM). Fast forward to the 21st century and online social communities (social networking sites or SNS) such as chat rooms and member based communities have quickly become part of our everyday lives. Social networks are a highly complex web of interaction which consists of family, friends, lovers, colleagues and others where one shares a relationship with (be it sexual or platonic). Usually both parties have a common interest (work at the same place, go to school together etc). The internet has evolved from Web 1.0 to Web†¦show more content†¦The meaning of the word relationship can have an abundance of different meanings, however for this research essay one will be focusing on three different types of relationships; Romantic and sexual, friendship and the relat ionship with ones self. For human beings, the need the socialise is possessed by many and â€Å"Facebook is quickly becoming one of the most popular tools for social communication† (Ross, C. et al, 2000). DATING In Lewis and West’s 2009 study participants found that Facebook added a whole new list of complications concerning dating. Not only does an individual have to interpret text messages, phone calls and passing in the street, they find they have to interpret an individuals activities on Facebook, in particular their wall. According to the Cambridge English dictionary, infidelity is â€Å"(an act of) having sex with someone who is not your husband, wife or regular sexual partner, or (an example of) not being loyal or faithful† whilst the Oxford English dictionary defines infidelity as â€Å"the action or state of being sexually unfaithful†(2008). However with the development of social networking sites, in particular ‘chat rooms’ a new form of infidelity raises it’s head. Primarily this essay will cover the social networking site Facebook.
